R. J. Haynie & Associates was founded in 1979. Located in Forest Park, Ga. its original focus was in the water and sewer industry, mainly performing electrical work associated with large pumping stations, as well as, waste and raw water treatment facilities. This work involved the wiring of buildings, standby generators, motor control centers, instrumentation, and large motors. Other aspects of this work involved the construction of concrete encased duct banks, manholes, light pole bases, and the setting of various light poles. The company shifted its focus away from the water and sewer industry around 1986, at which time more emphasis was placed on outside lighting. Sports lighting, parking lot lighting and highway lighting began to dominate the majority of contracts sought after and acquired. The relationship with the highway industry eventually led to the installation of traffic signals, which combined the need for specialized equipment, (ie ditchers, backhoes, digger derricks, and bucket trucks) with the control aspects of earlier projects. It soon became apparent that this would be the preferred sector of the electrical industry for this firm.
